Rib Burn Off

4 Sep

Today’s lunch workout was cut short due to lack of time.  I was a little distracted with talking at the gym and before I knew it, my lunch was coming to an end and I still needed to shower!  Even with the delay in start, I packed in a good sweat to get me through the afternoon.

I cut the third sprint and used the third incline walk as a cool down.  Time was just not on my side in a lot of ways today.

Labor Day Weekend

We spent another fabulous weekend in Ohio celebrating Labor Day and 4 days off work.  While we usually have “somewhere to be” each time we spend our long weekends in Ohio, this weekend was different.  We enjoyed hanging out with friends we haven’t seen during past visits, spontaneous dinners out and eating lots of great food.  While working out was not as easy as other trips, I did manage to get a 5 mile run in on Sunday morning before the biggest Labor Day event of the weekend.

The Annual Sares Labor Day Rib Burn Off is put on by my best friend’s family every year.

Ribs, what ribs?  I was all about these margaritas!

Ed has been talking about making his rib debut all year.  There were 17-18 entries this year competing for best sauce and best bones.  While some years there has been an even amount of sweet vs. spicy ribs, I think many chose the sweet side this year. (It’s a popular winner!)

Helping out Ed and melting from the heat of the grills!

Ed and I entered this year for our first time as a couple and chose the sweeter route with a hit of liquid smoke for additional flavor.  While Ed was pretty excited for his first attempt, there was quite a bit of competition.

May the odds be ever in the flavor.

Sadly, we did not make top three in either category, but Mr. Sares was kind enough to show us the results and we were right around fourth place for sauce.

Needless to say…we will be back next year!

Overall, the party was a ton of fun and everyone always enjoys themselves.  Well, almost everyone…

No family can throw a party like the Sares family.

“Chris, we love you and miss you.  Come home safe, LT.”

After a whirlwind of a weekend, it’s back to the normal routine and more healthier and balanced dinners then plates full of meat 😉

Polish kielbasa, quinoa, sauteed red pepper, chopped celery and a few “dashes” of Mrs. Dash seasoning.

Question of the Evening:

How do you like your ribs, sweet or spicy?
